Get Your Baby Checked!

Getting your newborn checked after birth is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child.  Trauma can occur at birth, even with no apparent symptoms.newborn-1328454_640

“When considering injuries and dysfunctions of the spine and its associated structures, the significance of birth trauma is often underestimated and the resulting symptoms frequently misrepresented.” -Manual Therapy in Children, Heiner Biedermann

Subluxation is caused by forces that impact the body that it cannot fully integrate.

  1. Physical trauma:
    1. In-utero constraint, which inhibits brain stimulation.
    2. Birth trauma
    3. Falls
  2. Toxin overload:
    1. Exposure to medications, chemicals, and toxins during pregnancy, birth and infancy
    2. Poor diet
  3. Emotional stress:
    1. Maternal stress in utero
    2. Environmental stress post birth
    3. Poor sleep habits

Too much stress to the nervous system causes a body to lose homeostasis, causing altered spinal motion and impaired nerve function, leading to digestive and immune systems stress, ultimately leading to symptoms and a diminished and dulled life.

The resulting nervous system stress caused by subluxation can be the cause of several newborn health complaints including:

• Colic

• Breathing problems

• Nursing difficulties

• Sleep disturbances

• Allergic reactions

• Chronic infections

In the first year of life, brain volume increases 101%, and 15% in the 2nd.

“Over 60% of all neurological development occurs after birth in the child’s first year of life.  This is why it is important for your child to get adjusted during the first year of their life”

Developmental delays and disorders can be discovered early.

“Studies have shown that parents of children with ASDs notice a developmental problem before their child’s first birthday.  Concerns about vision and hearing were more often reported in the first year, and differences in social, communication, and fine motor skills were evident from 6 months of age.”

newborn adjAdjusting a newborn:

A chiropractic adjustment for a newborn is extremely gentle.  The amount of force used is the equivalent to the amount when touching your eye.  Babies don’t have hard bones, strong muscle, or tough tissue, which allows for a very gentle adjustment.

The picture on the right is our daughter receiving her first chiropractic exam and adjustment, shortly after she was born. : )

Kids Need a Functioning Nervous System Just Like Their Parents!

Chiropractic care for children offers your family a solid foundation for wellness.

      5 Principles of Chiropractic

1.Our bodies are intelligent and self-healing

2.Our brain controls healing

3.Our brain communicates with our body through our nervous system (spinal cord, spinal nerves, peripheral nerves)

4 If there is interference in the communication, optimal function and healing doesn’t take place- We call this a Subluxation.

5.We are trained to detect and correct subluxation to allow your body to heal properly, functional optimally, and to allow you and your family to live to your fullest potential!

What Symptoms Mean

Symptoms are simply our body’s way of telling us our health is off track, and we have lost homeostasis.

Why Kids Need to be Checked

Children’s brains need to know what is youth-640094_640going on in their bodies and their environment.  Our Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) control our gut health, and our gut health controls our Immune System health.

Over 60% of all neurological development occurs before your child’s 1st birthday.  This is why it is important for your child to get checked during the first year of their life.

“Subluxation alone is a rational reason for Chiropractic care throughout a lifetime from birth”

-Lee Hadley, MD

What causes spinal issues in babies and kids?

  1. Physical stress
    1. In-Utero constraint
    2. Birth Trauma
      1. Forceps
      2. Vacuum
      3. Cord-wrapped
      4. C-Section
    3. Car seats, Bouncy seats, etc.
    4. Childhood falls
    5. Sports Injuries
    6. Sitting too much
    7. Looking down at cell phones, computers, etc.

It is estimated that a child can experience approximately 7000 traumatic events by age 14.

  2.   Chemical Stress (Toxins)

  1. Preservatives, pesticides, processed foods
  2. Sugar, grains, dairy based diets
  3. Environmental chemicals: household cleaners, detergents, etc
  4. Pollution

3. Emotional Stress

  1. Stressful pregnancy
  2. Stressful delivery
  3. NICU stays
  4. Fast-paced, high stress life
  5. Bullying

Adjustments for Kids

We don’t adjust kids the same as adults.  Their bones are softer and they have less muscle.  For really young ones, including babies, the pressure is no more than you would apply to your own eye.

Chiropractic care is about the importance of proper spinal and nervous system function to support your innate abilities to adapt to the environment and maintain and/or regain homeostasis and health.
